Vietnam 3 Month Visa / E-visa for Tourist and Business

A 3-month single entry visa permits only a single entry into Vietnam and its validity lasts for 90 days. Please be advised that if you leave the country during this period, the visa will become invalid. If you wish to stay in Vietnam beyond the 3-month validity, you will need to extend the visa. However, if you opt for a 3-month multiple entry visa, you will have the flexibility to enter and exit Vietnam multiple times within the 3-month period, until the visa expires.

Update: 3 month e-visa (multiple entry) policy is approved today and will be effective from 15 August 2023. Travelers are able to apply for a 3 month e-visa after the new rule come into effect on 15 August.

Vietnam visa can be classified into different types based on different purposes or lengths of stay in Vietnam. According to the entry purpose, you can see tourist visas, work visas, student visas, visas for visiting relatives, etc. As for the duration of stay, visas are divided into 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year.

However, no matter the purpose, the length of stay and whether a visa is convenient for your schedule are always top concerns of travelers. If 1-month  visa is usually suitable for traveling purposes, 3 month visa is one of the most common types for both traveling and business purposes in Vietnam.

Types of 3 month visas

In Vietnam, 3-month visas are categorized into 2 types including single-entry and multiple-entry visa.

Single entry visa (3 months)

A single entry visa is a kind of visa that is valid for 3 months (90 days) and only allows a single entry to Vietnam. It means foreigners can enter Vietnam only once throughout the period of the 3-month stay and no matter when they exit, the visa will expire. Then, you are required to apply for a new visa if you want to enter Vietnam again.

3-month single entry visa costs USD25 per person. It is popular for foreign tourists, businessmen, investors, or those visiting their family/relatives in Vietnam. This visa type is used for 2 purposes:

• Traveling (Category DL) - For tourists.
• Business (Category DN) - For those working with enterprises in Vietnam.

Multiple entry visa (3 months)

Compared with single-entry, a 3-month multi-entry visa has the same duration of stay yet allows foreigners to enter and exit Vietnam multiple times for a maximum stay of 3 months (90 days). Foreigners can exit Vietnam and return at any time until the visa expires. The 3-month multiple-entry visa costs USD50 per person.

Who are eligible for the 3 month visa

Not all travelers or businessmen can apply for a 3-month visa to Vietnam. Check out applicants granted this visa below:

• Foreigners having work permits in Vietnam or certificates showing that they are exempt from work permits.
• Foreigners are investors and business owners of Vietnam enterprises.
• Foreigners entering Vietnam for traveling or business purposes with a guaranteeing agency/ organization in Vietnam
• Foreigners having at least 1-year valid passport in advance of the trip.
• Those are not on the list of individuals prohibited from entering Vietnam as prescribed in Article 21 of the Law on entry, exit, transit and residence of foreigners in Vietnam

How to apply

There are things to prepare in advance of the application and steps to follow to get a 3-month visa to Vietnam. Here they are:

Step 1: Preparation

Prepare documents and things needed for the visa application, including:

• Application form to enter Vietnam (form NA2)
• Application form for visa issuance, stay extension (form NA5)
• Work permit or work permit exemption for foreigners
• Original passport with a validity of at least 1 year
• Temporary residence book or certificate of temporary residence registration for foreigners
• Introduction letter (from your inviting or guaranteeing agency/organization)
• Legal documents of inviting/guaranteeing enterprises (Business registration certificate/Operating license/Investment license of the enterprise, first registration of signature and seal at the Vietnam Immigration Department).

Step 2: Submit documents and wait for the approval

• If you are residing outside Vietnam, you can submit all documents yourself at the Vietnam Embassy/Consulate in your country of residence.
• If you are staying in Vietnam, your inviting/guaranteeing enterprise/agency in Vietnam can submit all documents to one of the Vietnam Immigration Offices below:

***Note: Vietnam Immigration Department is open from Monday to Friday and Saturday morning, except for public holidays. The working hours are from 08.00 am - 11.00 am and 13.30 pm – 16.00 pm. In case of emergency, you still can contact the officers on duty at the headquarters.

Step 3: Receive the result

After your application is submitted, the process may take 5 - 7 working days. If your application is approved, you or your inviting/guaranteeing company will be informed of the result. Then, you need to go to the Embassy/Consulate or Vietnam Immigration Office, pay the required visa fee, and get the visa.

Fees

Presently, 3 month visa can only be obtained via 2 methods: at the Embassy/Consulate or Visa on arrival. Vietnam E-visa is currently available for single entry with a maximum stay of 30 days. Therefore, depending on the method you choose, the price varies.

• Applying at the Embassy/Consulate: USD25 for single entry and USD50 for multiple entries.
• Applying for a visa on arrival: USD25 for single entry and USD50 for multiple entries for government fee plus USD25-150 for a visa approval letter depending on the policy of each travel/visa agency in Vietnam.

Vietnam 3 month E-visa (Multi-entry)

The Ministry of Public Security has proposed an extension of the e-visa validity for foreign visitors entering Vietnam, from the current 30-day period to a maximum of 90 days. The purpose of this proposal is to entice more international tourists to visit the country. The proposal will also consider allowing e-visa for multiple entries instead of single-entry and expand the countries and territories instead of 80 countries as of now.
